2014 Penguin Plunge!

We wanted to let you know about an awesome fundraising opportunity coming up that benefits Special Olympics Idaho. The event is the Penguin Plunge and it will take place on Saturday, February 1st at Eagle Island State Park. Participants will gather pledges leading up to the event and then plunge into the icy cold water in support of Special Olympics Athletes!

SO College has already started a team to plunge together and we want you on it! Click HERE to visit the fundraising page for this event, and then click “Join Now”. This will take you to a registration page where you will input your information and join the SO College Team.

Once you are part of the team, start gathering pledges! Share your profile URL on Facebook and send it to friends and family via email to help you start fundraising. This is a fun, easy way to show support for Special Olympics Idaho and promote the SO College Club at Boise State University.

Please see documents under our Event Items > Opportunities & Sign Up (on this site) for further event information. If you have any questions, please contact Kelsey Solberg, Development at Special Olympics Idaho, 509.951.0968ksolberg@idso.org.

Interesting in coaching for Special Olympics?!

An opportunity has presented itself for a coaching position for a local Special Olympics team!

Dr. Sara Fry at Boise State University is interested in having a second coach for her snowshoe/cross country team.  The team practices weekly on Saturdays, meeting at 9am to go to Bogus and getting back into Boise around 1pm.

This sounds like a great opportunity get further involved with Special Olympics Idaho, and complete your volunteer hours for SO College BSU!

Please let Marissa or Lisa know if you’re interested.

Fundraiser: Stampede Night

We have exciting news!

Our first-ever SO College BSU fundraiser is happening on Tuesday, February 4th at 7pm. The Idaho Stampede has been kind enough to host a Special Olympics College Group Night to help raise money for our trip to volunteer for Special Olympics Winter Games. A portion of each ticket sold (which are only $10!!) will go straight to SO College BSU.

We would love to see you spread the word about this fun night out, and for only $10 a ticket you could bring the whole family!

Contact information for Travis Forrest is on the flyer. Contact him to reserve tickets, or fill out the form and fax it in.

We can’t wait to see you there!

SO College BSU in UPDATE

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the November 21, 2013 edition of Boise State University’s UPDATE publication (linked here).

It features a great story about SO College, our upcoming volunteer opportunity at this year’s Special Olympics Winter Games, and a summary of last week’s Young Athletes Experience event.

Way to go, SO College BSU!

Young Athletes Experience SUCCESS!

Yesterday was our first-ever Young Athletes Experience here on Boise State’s campus, and SO College BSU could not be more happy with the success of this event!  We had numerous athletes and their family members involved in the event, and special education service providers from around the community watching and considering the possibility of hosting similar events at their schools.

A huge THANK YOU to all of you who volunteered for the YA event.  We couldn’t have done it without you!  It was an amazing feeling walking around the event and observing the engagement between SO College members and our YAs.  There was so much joy and enthusiasm in that room!

Stay tuned for pictures and video clips in our Event Pictures section of the website.  But for now, enjoy the few that we have provided below…
